Join ASHRAE and the Golden Gate Chapter
ASHRAE advances the arts and sciences of the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world. Membership is open to any person associated with the field, including indoor air quality and occupational health and safety, building design and operation, and environmental control for food processing and industry.
Membership in ASHRAE not only allows access to information regarding state-of-the art HVAC&R technology, but also provides opportunities to participate in the development of that technology. Participation in ASHRAE occurs in one of two ways: the most common way is through local Chapters (the surrounding San Francisco are being the Golden Gate Chapter), or through Society (Society encompasses all of the local chapters such as GG ASHRAE). There are opportunities to participate on standards and technical committees both locally and at Society level. These committees help develop standards and make recommendations to the Society on research needs, emerging technologies, and technical matters.
To get started, please visit the ASHRAE web site https://www.ashrae.org/membership/join to learn more about membership. You must join on a society level before affiliating with a local chapter such as Golden Gate ASHRAE.
Once you are a member of ASHRAE on the society level, you can become a Golden Gate Chapter member. You may pay your chapter dues at the same time you pay your society dues in order to make the process easier (this method is preferred). You can also sign up for society through the above link, and then pay your dues directly to the local chapter (not preferred). If you choose to pay the chapter directly, then please contact me for information. The Golden Gate Chapter membership dues are $60.00 per year and the annual dues on a society level are $220.00. Memberships for full-time students are $25.00 per year. Students could receive the many benefits of Associate grade membership via SmartStart program after finishing college. Don’t forget to reach out to your employers before completing this process, some employers are willing to sponsor their employees.
As the Membership Promotion Chair, I hope you find value in Chapter membership. Typical chapter events include excellent technical discussions (both lunch and dinner meetings), opportunities for networking, and a variety of social activities throughout the year. Check the Meetings & Events tab for more information about upcoming events.
